GrimDark to Grimm, Dark: the Endarkenment of Television

A while ago, Kevin Feige, currently running the phases of Marvels’ movies, has mentioned that Marvel will never go “GrimDark,” like the Batman vs. Superman trailer seems to be.

As he said it, I discovered I had the perfect word for what’s happening with my tv shows.  Seriously, multiple shows in my TV watching season, some of the better ones, have started going into … bleak, dark, utterly hopeless crap. I’m really kinda tired of it. Continue reading

What comes after Marvel: Age of Ultron?

So, what’s next?

Yes, we’ve got the upcoming movie list of the rest of Marvel, but what can we expect to see, given what’s come out thus far?  Obviously, there will be SPOILERS from Age of Ultron, so if you’re like one of three people who haven’t seen it yet, this blog post is NOT FOR YOU. Continue reading

Thoughts on CBS’ Supergirl

This latest DC television show is brought to you by Greg Berlanti, who’s busy taking over the CW network with The Flash and Arrow, and whoever else he can get his hands on from DC Comics.  For some reason, CW didn’t want his Supergirl project. So, he went to CBS.

My first thought, as I looked at Kara and her civilian dress?  “Did they just give Felicity Smoake from Arrow superpowers?”  Because the awkwardness and personality kinda match up. Continue reading

Welcome to the Catholic Geeks!

Pardon the dust as we move things around. We’ll get that squared away soon.

This site is an ambitious project: getting a bunch of Catholic geeks together to write blog posts. (Okay, that sounds really simple when I put it that way, but trust me, it’s still ambitious. Have you tried herding cats recently?) In essence, the blog is about Catholic stuff, or geeky stuff, or geeky Catholic stuff; but that all covers a wide range of topics, so even we aren’t sure what’s going to happen!

Some of us are gamers. Some of us are anime geeks. Some of us are martial artists. Some are specialists, generalists, or just plain enthusiasts. We’re artists, writers, singers, dancers, and more. There are only two guarantees: we’re all Catholics, and we’re all geeks. If either topic interests you, then this is a blog to watch.

This project got started in large part because many of us became friends on Facebook, and the joking title “The Catholic League of Catholics” was born as others started noticing the vocal papists in our various groups and discussions. We recently decided to formalize the Geek Division of the CLoC using this blog. Next month, we’re even launching a Blog Talk Radio show, which will be managed by founding CG member Declan Finn.

Interesting times are ahead of us.
